Get the foundations right.

LIGHT

Know your spot.

Watch how sunlight moves through your space. Match the plant’s light requirements to the location before choosing what to grow.

Try this: Note which areas receive morning and afternoon sun.

WATER

Check before you pour.

Check moisture in the growing mix, not just the surface. Container size, weather, and plant growth all affect how quickly it dries.

Try this: Compare the weight of a watered pot with the same pot as it dries.

NUTRITION

Keep a simple record.

Write down each feed and follow the product’s schedule. Before feeding a new pot, check whether its growing mix already contains fertilizer.

Try this: Keep one note with the date, product, amount, and your observations.

FROM INDOORS TO OUTDOORS

Give seedlings time to settle in.

Indoor-grown seedlings need a gradual introduction to outdoor light, wind, and temperatures. This is called hardening off.

  1. Begin in a sheltered spot for a short period.
  2. Increase exposure gradually as the plants adjust.
  3. Protect tender plants from frost and unsuitable weather.

WHEN SOMETHING LOOKS DIFFERENT

Observe first. Change one thing.

Leaves are turning yellow

Yellowing alone does not identify a nutrient deficiency. Check moisture, drainage, light, and recent changes. Take a photo of the whole plant and the affected leaves before asking for help.

The pot dries faster than it used to

Check for hotter weather, stronger sun, wind, or a larger plant. Reassess watering and whether the plant has enough root space.

Growth seems slow

Review light, temperature, root space, and the plant’s season of growth. Avoid adding extra fertilizer without first understanding the cause.
